Introduction:

Toasted Oatmeal - Basket Weave Coating is a superb 100% Wool chunky basket weave coating weight fabric. You don't need to be a vintage clothing lover to appreciate the quality of this first-rate woollen fabric. It will be equally at home made up into high fashion pieces.

Colour:

Toasted Oatmeal boasts a first-rate natural palette, akin to a bowl of wholesome oatmeal crumble with golden toasted warmth. The natural-hued melange yarns have a very pleasing wholesome look and feel perfect for a multitude of styles.

Properties:

This chunky basketweave woollen (created from weaving groups of yarns together in a weave that emulates a woven basket) has a super cosy heavyweight and has the feel of a traditional, lightly brushed and lightly felted wool coating fabric. Boasting a stable handle that also drapes reassuringly creating the perfect fabric for a plethora of winter warming, sewing room projects. This skillfully crafted fabric will ‘do as it’s told’, wool fabric of this kind is satisfying to sew and will last for years.

Use Toasted Oatmeal to create your own nature-inspired, comforting winter warmers for your wardrobe or home. Choose complimentary natural-hued fabrics, such as the Yorkshire Meltons, Marled Meltons and Thistledown Marls from the Heart of Huddersfield range to complement or showcase it as you choose.

Garment Suggestions:

Dressmakers: For more experienced sewists, making a coat is a satisfying project, patterns such as The Avid Seamstress' - The Coat and Sew Different's - Cocoon Jacket are ideal styles. Choose a complimentary lining and you will have garments that will be perennial favourites. Create your own retro/vintage style wardrobe and make stylish coats like the Vogue pattern 1977 - a swing coat with an optional cape or shawl collar for extra warmth and drama, this double-breasted coat will certainly keep the winter chills at bay.

Collarless French couture-style jackets with pearl buttons and velvet trim will look superb!

Pea coats, simple wraps, ponchos and capes are all excellent choices. Gilets with quilted linings are perfect partners for key pieces within your existing wardrobe and add a warming extra layer, perfect for throwing on over your jumper and jeans.

Interior Designers: Natural country-style interiors are always a classic and this reassuringly warm and heavyweight pure  wool fabric will make fabulous throws, hardwearing cushions and heavyweight draught excluding curtains.

Craftspeople: Create rustic country-style accessories, bags, hats, caps, neck warmers etc from this stylish tweedy heavyweight.

Looks and feels wonderful.

I have just received my order of Roasted Oatmeal Basket Weave. It looks even better than it does in the pictures, and also better than I could dream of. It feels wonderful - nothing compares to real wool.I love this fabric! And I am really looking forward to making my coat…
