Introduction:

You don't have to be a vintage fashionista to appreciate the retro design and sumptuously silken hand of this fabric. If you love fine-quality silk crepe but don’t want complicated and careful washing instructions, then this breathable viscose is the one for you!

Colour:

Ava's Asters is a seriously first-rate lustrous satin fabric with a crepe back. The '40s & '50s inspired design boasts a colour palette where dramatic black sits in the background and white negative space creates contrasting areas of foliage and flowers. The fluffy spiked petals of Aster flowers are coloured with three beautiful tones of blue from almost vivid royal blue through to sky blue and aqua. A flourish of coral pink and marshmallow pink completes the ensemble.

Properties:

Bring out your feminine side when wearing garments in this sumptuous satin-backed crepe. Ava's Asters has a beautiful viscous medium/light weight with a heavy and sumptuous drape that is otherwise stable length-wise and has a slight ease on the width. Boasting a delicious, breathable viscose cool to the touch, and a lustrous, finely textured face, the exquisite satin has a subtle sheen and screams glamour and quality. The matte reverse has a typical crepe fine-grained texture. These redeeming qualities make this a first-rate dress satin-crepe that is ideal for a plethora of eye-catching garments.

Garment Suggestions:

Fabrics with this beautiful drape and handle are just waiting to be transformed into show-stopping occasion-wear dresses. This fabric will show off feminine ruffles, fine pin tucks and pleats or dramatic drape details.  Look to styles like the Sew Different - Darjeeling Frock.

Super for dramatic dresses that require good drape, lustre and sheen. Why not use it for palazzo or evening pants with a matching jacket tuxedo style or duster style Sew Different - Joti Duster Jacket. Use both sides to create a subtle contrast on the cuffs and bands/collar and lapels.

1940s-style dresses will come together with Hollywood glamour when using this versatile fabric, as will 1970s styles and classic bow-tied blouses and dresses too.

Pattern suggestions:

  • Butterick - BD 6363 Classic Bow-Tie Dress
  • Butterick - 6682 '50s Halterneck Dress & Jacket
  • Vogue Patterns - 9294 Misses dresses '40s
  • Butterick - 6485 Misses dresses
Other Uses:

Create matching accessories, headbands, scarves and stoles and glamorous evening purses and bags with, ruched and pleated details- perhaps add a diamante brooch for vintage deco glamour.
