Introduction:

Desert Khaki is a high-end ex-British designer deadstock fabric with a very similar hand to most good-quality drills and twills.

Colour:

Desert Khaki is woven from fine cotton yarns in a classic camel beige or desert khaki hue dark. This perennial go-to is so versatile and perfect to make garments easily dressed up or down.

Properties:

Gaberdine, drills and twills are practical and hardwearing thanks to a close weave construction with lightly raised diagonal ridges. Its fine twill weave and stable handle have just enough elastane to provide ease of movement across the width, medium to lightweight, and pleasing malleable cotton feel hand. A soft and delicious drape makes it ideal for creating softer details, elegantly flared skirts and even frills and ruffles. The use of a light iron on interfacing will help when creating sharp details including collars, cuffs, epaulettes, tabs and belts.

This group of predominantly cotton fabrics are often used to make hardwearing outerwear. From workwear and utility clothing to super chic trench coats and all manner of clothing and accessories, through to useful homewares and soft furnishings. Read on for inspiring ideas hints and tips about our new addition to the Drills & Twills section.

Garment Suggestions:

Desert Khaki is the ideal fabric for your A/W wardrobe. Team with other classic-toned ensembles. All you have to do is decide what to make from this super versatile fabric. Here are a few helpful suggestions to set you on your way:

There are of course countless other brilliant sewing patterns available, these are but a few. Other excellent uses are craft aprons, tool aprons/holders, tote bags, messenger bags, hats, caps, rucksacks, and barrel bags.
