Linen & Cotton Chambray - Monaco Stripes is just as its name suggests a fabulously soft (almost washed and worn), cool, breathable linen and cotton blend fabric, woven in jaunty seaside stripes from a combination of fresh white, mid denim blue, tangerine and gold yarns (on the warp) and classic white on the weft. The combination creates fabulous sketchy melange stripes with the look of chambray.
Monaco Stripes may remind you of our previous striped linen Seaside Stripes - Chambray Style, using the same colourway but with a different stripe arrangement, this is the other sibling fabric of Cote D'Azur Stripes.
Properties:
Like its predecessor, this striped wonder is stable, soft and has the feel of a favourite linen shirt. This light (but not flimsy) relaxed chambray style fabric will form crisp details (with a little light interfacing), on collars and cuffs. Used in quantity it will form feminine gathers, pleats, pin-tucks and ruffles. So all you have to do is decide what to make.
This blended fabric gives you the benefits of both wonderful natural fibres. Cotton blended with linen produces a softer, finer fabric which results in fewer creases when worn, which in turn makes it easier to iron.
Garment Suggestions:
Soft, breathable and oh so comfortable you will want to make a wardrobe full of key pieces for a superb, summer layered-chic linen look. Its lightweight and soft drape make it the ideal candidate for a plethora of uses from the stylish to the practical.
Create '90s inspired button front summer dresses like Closet Core's Fiona Dress or a fabulous directional striped detail dress like V1743 (using all three-striped fabrics). Pantsuits with longline sleeveless shirts and wide-legged trousers are also a fabulously chic "Riviera" (TV Series) style perfect for those hot summer days.
Put Monaco Stripes to use for simple boat-necked tops and pretty blouses, it's also perfect for creating layering garments such as vest tops, drapey tunics and pinafore dresses. Heavily pleated culottes and shorts will look superb in this uplifting fabric.
About This Collection
This is deadstock linen from one of Europe’s top linen manufacturers, the quality is out of this world and the range is vast.
Just the same as with our Sample Room Linens a few weeks ago, this fabric is not cut to order and is only sold by the piece (not by length), due to the nature of its existence. Completely unique, there is only unit of each fabric available. Take your pick from quirky and never-seen-before one-off pieces, with lengths varying from 1m through to 10m.
Some pieces are in multiple lengths, prices are reflected to show this.
About Linen
Linen has been used for centuries because of its beneficial properties: cool, breathable, and it gets softer with washing & wear. Linen is also impervious to moths and resistant to dirt and stains, nor will it pill or form lint, and can be washed at high temperatures with only moderate shrinkage (approximately 4%). The characteristic slubs of linen, viewed as a fault once upon a time, are now part of the aesthetic appeal of quality linen fabric.
About Linen's Properties
Linen has been used for centuries because of its beneficial properties: cool, breathable, and it gets softer with washing & wear. Here's a few more reasons we love linen!
Breathability: Linen is highly breathable, allowing air to flow through the fabric easily. This makes it an excellent choice for warm weather, as it helps keep the body cool and comfortable.
Moisture Absorption: Linen can absorb a significant amount of moisture without feeling damp. It wicks away perspiration from the body, contributing to its cooling effect.
Durability: Linen is known for its durability and strength. It is a robust fabric that can withstand regular use and washing, and it tends to become softer and more comfortable with each wash.
Resistance to Moths: Linen is naturally resistant to moths and other insects, making it a good choice for storage of textiles and clothing.
Stain Resistance: Linen has natural stain resistance, which helps it repel dirt and stains. This quality makes linen an excellent option for items that may be exposed to spills or stains.
No Pilling or Lint Formation: Unlike some other fabrics, linen is less prone to pilling (the formation of small, fuzzy balls on the surface) and lint formation. This contributes to the longevity and appearance of linen products.
High Temperature Tolerance: Linen can be washed at high temperatures, contributing to its cleanliness and hygiene. However, it may experience moderate shrinkage (approximately 4%) after washing.
Aesthetic Appeal of Slubs: Linen is known for its characteristic slubs, which are small, irregular lumps or knots in the fabric. While these were once considered imperfections, they are now embraced as part of the aesthetic charm of quality linen. The slubs add texture and visual interest to the fabric.
