This delightful linen and viscose blend fabric comes to you in a wonderfully warm and spicy tone making it ideal for a multitude of practical and stylish sewing room projects.

A new addition to the website and manufactured by the same renowned European company as our summer Linens of '21 & '22. These fabrics are the same superior quality and with an assortment of even more colours, designs and natural fibre types. Natural fibre lovers, this is for you!

Colour:

Linen & Viscose - Toasted Spice (Washed Look) is just as its name suggests a fabulously soft, cool, breathable linen fabric, woven in a classic Sharkskin weave- which is actually a staggered twill and appears as tiny stepped diagonals-) with alternating silken yarns of cinnamon bark and sunny saffron spice yarns throughout the warp and weft. The classic twill weave and warming tone are the perfect combination of practicality and style.

Properties:

Linen has been used for centuries because of its beneficial properties; cool and breathable, gets softer with washing & wear and linen is impervious to moths and resists dirt and stains. Linen will not form lint or pill and can be washed at high temperatures with only moderate shrinkage.

The characteristic slubs (once viewed as a fault) are now part of the aesthetic appeal of quality linen fabric. It is stable, soft and has the feel of a favourite linen garment with a pre-washed hand. This medium-weight fabric is closely woven and has excellent opacity. Toasted Spice is seriously soft and boasts a reassuringly weighty drapey hand but excellent stability.

Garment Suggestions:

Toasted Spice will form crisp details (with a little light interfacing), on collars, cuffs and waistbands. Used in quantity it will form soft and full feminine gathers, with a reassuring drape, plus neat pleats, and pin-tucks. So all you have to do is decide what to make.

The Layer Up Collection by Sew Different is ideal for creating a capsule wardrobe of fresh spring-summer linen and ( linen blend) makes you will want to take through into autumn.

Soft, breathable and comfortable you will want to make a wardrobe full of key pieces for a superb, summer linen look. Its medium weight and soft drape make it the ideal candidate for a plethora of uses from the stylish to the practical. The Pattern Stash - Lynsey Dungarees are the perfect utility-style clothing as is The Ilford Jacket.

Put Toasted Spice to use for; simple boat-necked tops and classic shirts, it's also perfect for creating layering garments such as vest tops, drapey tunics and pinafore dresses. For an on-trend Boho/ Prairie style. Megan Nielson Protea Capsule Collection is an ideal place to start for soft-gathered styles.

For more structured styles create a classic safari-style suit or chic shirt dress with a fabric belt, patch and flap pockets and smart epaulettes.

Pleated culottes, shorts and trousers like The Pattern Stash Cordelia Trousers look superb in this versatile linen fabric. Add a matching blazer such as The Blazer by The Avid Seamstress. This will also look superb with The Pattern Stash's Amelia Skirt.

Team this versatile linen fabric with others- like (Autumn Spice?) from the range for a totally complimentary wardrobe in cool and breathable natural fibres.

Very versatile

I wanted to make a versatile linen dress that would;
*Be a good colour for sunny or dull UK days
* Could be worn casually or dressed up
* Would wash & wear well
* Could serve as a transitional piece
I washed the fabric before making it up and it washed well @ 30 degrees. A steam press banished creases. The fabric was easy to sew , fraying was minimal. The fabric is a medium weight with good drape. I am pleased with the results.
