Introduction:

Welcome to Fabworks’ House Linen: a collection of carefully curated colours, created from a base cloth of linen and cotton.

Initially sourced as deadstock overruns, we rescued this fabric that had a light washed colour, which meant that it would be perfect to overdye. Now rejuvenated and repurposed into some of our favourite shades, the House Linen collection features a range of hand-picked hues that sit together in a paint box-like palette. Voilà!

Colour:

Maytime Lilac is the colour of so many spring flowers which all miraculously seem to burst forth in May. This perfect lilac colour boasts rich saturated hues. Think of lilac trees, Wisteria and bluebells, their heady perfume fragrancing the spring air and you have the colour its almost soft amethyst with a pastel undertone- lavender has these lilac tones too. It's no coincidence - bees are attracted to purple flowers!

Sit this stunner alongside similar hues, Bougainvillaea Magent, for a combination that's as perfect as nature's flowers. For a fab contrast team with Pistachio Glacé for a sweet combination!  Rich pastel lovers will adore Maytime Lilac. Team it with all your favourite pastels and brights from the House Linen Oxfords for a joyful rainbow of fun sewing!!

Properties:

The Twill Linens have been created through dyeing and finishing a twill woven linen 43% & cotton 57% blend fabric. The diagonals of the superfine twill weave sit alongside a scattering of characteristic subtle slubs, resulting in a lightly brushed finish.

The Oxford Linens have been created through dyeing and finishing a fine Oxford woven linen (42%) & cotton (58%) blend fabric. Due to its textural weave detail (akin to a Panama or Hopsack)

These cosy but not cloying, cool and breathable fabric is stable yet drapey, and features a super soft handle that is simply sublime, perfect for a multitude of garments.

One of the many benefits that the House Linen offers is that it will wash and wear forever, only improving with age due to the hard-wearing properties of its natural fibres: cotton and linen.

Garment Suggestions:

Simple slashed-neck T-shirt style tops and classic shirts are perfect for standalone garments made using House Linen and will become key pieces in your wardrobe for year-round wear. Alternatively, create wide-legged trousers, tunics, smocks, and summer dresses.

Cordelia Trousers by The Pattern Stash: An excellent make for such light/medium linens, giving that comfy yet distinguished look found with wide-legged trousers. Why not hack it yourself for a pair of super smart city shorts?

Lynsey Dungarees Pattern: Use to your advantage and make with slouchy comfy styles for easy wear summer attire.

Megan Nielsen Patterns' Protea Capsule Wardrobe Set: Ideal for pretty full-gathered styles, stunning outfits and a selection of versatile tops!

Layer Up Collection by Sew Different: Perfect for creating a capsule wardrobe of fresh S/S linen makes that will take you right through into autumn.

Other Uses:

These House Linens will make superb linens for your home: pillow slips, lavender pillows, table runners, table covers, napkins, provincial-style café curtains and aprons too! Add embroidery for individual gifts sure to become heirlooms of the future.

Background:

Now in its fifth generation, the family behind Fabworks has been working with 'textile waste' for over 100 years, whether that be in reclaimed textiles, cleaning rags & wipers, shoddy, loose fibres, or second-hand clothing. Fast forward to the 21st century, where fabric and sewing notions are the company’s main focus, we now find ourselves breaking new ground with a bespoke selection of fabrics that we have dyed in the UK, just in time for S/S 2023.

Beautiful fabric

Just gorgeous classy fabric with a beautiful handle, in a subtle colour. I don't know what I'll make with it, so I bought plenty! Either a dress or a tunic, I think it'll be nice to work with. Very quick delivery as usual for Fabworks

Fabworks fabfabric

Beautiful soft handle fabric that will be suitable for lighterweight trousers or a heavier weight shirt. I like muted shades and thought that the May time colour was closer to that preference. The colour is paler than it appears on my ipad screen but that was a plus. I’m making a gorgeous Tilton shirt (lots of pieces). Delivery is really fast. I ordered Thursday evening and the parcel arrived today, Saturday, lunchtime. I enjoy my shopping experience with Fabworks.
