Introduction:

Smoked & Peppered - Herringbone Bouclé is an excellent, lightly textured, wool blend, tweed style fabric that features clever yarns with nubby-Bouclé-like details that feature throughout the whole weave. Textured fancy tweed style fashions are a classic trend and are featured by some of the top design houses - creating that oh-so-iconic French couture style favoured by chic Parisienne ladies and women worldwide.

Colour:
Smoked & Peppered is a natural white warp that contrasts perfectly with the rich chocolate brown sitting alongside to produce a pleasing combination with perennial appeal. A subtle alternative to the usual black and white.

Properties:

Smoked & Peppered has a white warp thread and black weft thread, both with a wonderful nubby bouclé bobble forming the chevrons of the herringbone producing the look of roughly milled peppered herring.

This smart herringbone with a textured twist has a soft drapey handle and maintains a close, firm weave making it suitable for most tailoring projects.

Garment Suggestions:

Jackets, coats, capes neat skirts like The Amelia Skirt by The Pattern Stash. Add a matching waistcoat with feminine princess seams - The Jemima Waistcoat is ideal. Add a rich brown velvet collar or side panels for indulgent luxury. Pinafore dresses and fitted dresses will sit perfectly with a neat cropped couture style collarless jacket, use of linings and interfacing are recommended for a professional finish.

Why not use Smoked & Peppered with its soft hand of this versatile fabric and create an unstructured piece that uses drape, tucks or gathered details. Whether dress, tunic, skirt or coat for a fabulously 'Brit style'- 'Westwood' look.

Also ideal for matching accessories bags, hats caps and neck-warmers. Create country-style soft furnishings. Cushions and throws with a wonderfully textured style.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
