Introduction:

With a nod to a certain French fashion designer, famous for her iconic two-piece collarless ladies' suits, Gabrielle's Haute - Mono Check Tweed ticks all the classic style boxes. Read on for more inspiration and facts.

Colour:

Gabrielle's Haute has a classic monochrome palette where fresh natural white contrasts beautifully with a deep true black. This is monochrome chic!

Properties:

Gabrielle's Haute is a beautifully soft and textured basket weave with a fancy tweed style, mediumweight, fabric. Woven from a clever blend of fibres to produce a fabric with a cotton feel that is both comfortable and practical. Typically stable width and lengthwise, plus gentle ease across the bias which provides an excellent soft and sumptuous drape that feels wonderful. The fabric has a slightly open weave, a characteristic of the fancy textured weaves, with a wonderful melange of fancy yarns creating depth and interest within this classic check.

Garment Suggestions:

Emphasise the '50s/'60s style of this first-rate fabric by constructing neat, collarless couture style suits, shift and A-line dresses, double-breasted coat dresses, coats and jackets. If '60s vintage style clothing isn't for you then simply extend the hemlines and you immediately enter a different era in style, '80s & '90s styles can easily be achieved with a few simple tweaks. Add some gold buttons for a more modern style and add chunky black or ivory buttons for a truly vintage look.

For something a little different and very stylish make Stitchless TV's Sculptural Bucket Coat, you will have a wonderful summer-weight coat, simply bind the seams with co-ordinating black or ivory bias binding. Gabrielle's Haute will also make ideal coatigans and cardigan styles, just bind the seams for a flawless finish.

Why not make fabulous matching accessories such as bags, hats and cap. Wouldn't a Baker boy cap with a coordinating covered button at the top look perfect with your sixties-inspired makes?

Other Uses:

If dressmaking isn't for you then simple soft furnishings such as throws and cushions will be fabulous in Gabrielle's Haute, hand fray the edges for a professional finish.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
