Introduction:
This warming melton wool fabric is created by closely weaving 100% wool yarn on both the warp and weft. The fabric is then fulled, just one of the processes used in creating Melton to give that dense felt-like finish.
Colour:
Lavender Sky - Wool Melton is a superb cool lilac hue- evoking thoughts of misty lilac mornings and pastel-hued sunsets. The perfect winter alternative to the usual camel beige or cream for overcoats.
Properties:
This closely woven and felted fabric has a lightly brushed surface that produces a hard-wearing finish. The underlying twill weave can be seen with close scrutiny but is obscured by the lightly napped, felted finish. Made from 100% Wool, our first-rate Lavender Sky is stable both width and lengthways and boasts a soft, drapey, medium/heavyweight handle too.
Garment Suggestions:
Meltons are versatile felted fabrics with minimal fraying to the cut edges and have the same appearance on both sides. The fabric is traditionally used for coats, jackets, waistcoats and many historical and costume applications as well as capes and stylish wraps.
Other Uses:
Meltons also make an ideal base for 2-D needle-felted projects, which can be made into bags, cushions, wall hangings, etc. Lavender Sky is also ideal for blankets & throws too! Why not personalise yours with a little needle felting or applique - team with your offcuts of Yorkshire Tweed fabrics for a wonderful combination.
