Introduction:

This super soft lambswool plaid was woven in County Wicklow for the esteemed Avoca company, famous for their heritage woollens with characteristic colourful palettes.

Colour:

Glendalough Avoca - Lambswool Plaid is made up of 3 dominant striking colours woven in a twill plaid, created from yarns of the softest 100% lambswool, inspired by the beautiful Glendalough Lake. Uplifting tones of turquoise hues from pale water hues to deeper teal-turquoise are woven alongside creamy white like the beautiful white waterlilies which sit upon the surface of the lake.

Properties:

Glendalough Avoca is a medium-lightweight woollen fabric that has a close weave producing a stable hand with an incredibly soft and comforting drape quality. The luxurious softness and warmth of this fabric make it a perfect candidate for all your winter creations.

Garment Suggestions:

Larger garment projects are probably better suited to this wool because of its larger-scale plaid. Many cute clothing ideas spring to mind when you lay your eyes on this fabric: shawls, wraps, capes, unstructured and drapey dresses, and waterfall cardigan coats are all a must!

The uplifting turquoise hues in this Glendalough Avoca fabric will sit confidently in a coastal or waterside property, evoking the natural colours that we associate with blissful blue skies reflected in cool and calm waters.

Other Uses:

Glendalough Plaid is a fool proof fabric choice for throws, cushions, bolsters and so much more,  all those comforting accessories that make a house a home.

For anyone who loves to use every scrap, why not make your own scarf and match it with a bag or a hat? Perhaps a door-stopper or draught-excluder to match your plaid curtains or blinds will look fabulous, too.

Beautiful!

Looking for tight weave but lightweight all wool fabric to make a dressing gown. Delighted with this purchase. The checked pattern is bigger than I envisaged although had measured out the repeat so knew size but I still love it. Soft feel and drape.
Delivery arrived super fast. Thank you.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
