Introduction:

Earth, Sky & Sea - Sharkskin Wool Flannel is suitable for a wide range of seriously smart or smart/casual clothing, depending on the patterns and styles you choose to create, and it has a designer pedigree. Originally made by Italian craftsmen for the same designer as our SOS Collection, it's equally stunning and perfect for cross-seasonal wear - after all, wool is naturally temperature-regulating!

Colour:

Earth, Sky & Sea a subtle melange of complementary toned yarns sits together in this closely woven wool flannel, boasting a stepped design that takes its name from the micro-toothed skin of a shark. Rich browns (like newly-tilled earth), multi-hued navy (the colour of the midnight sky) and dusty blues (like cool seawater) are cleverly woven together to produce a subtle, almost purple-toned blue, with a dusty denim hue.

This clever weave is actually a staggered twill weave. Earth, Sky & Sea features a stable medium-weight handle with a beautifully soft and cosy drape quality with a lightly brushed feel.

Properties:

Earth, Sky & Sea is a wool flannel weight fabric that is the go-to favourite of everyone from academics to royalty, perfect for smart country-style ensembles for both ladies and gents alike. Whether you’re relaxing in a country hotel or out window shopping.

This super-soft wool blend will keep you warm and stylish (without the itchiness or coarseness). We think this denim-hued beauty is perfect for creating smart/casual pieces you can dress up or down.

Garment Suggestions:

Tailors, rejoice: this is a classic - it's perfect for jackets, trousers and waistcoats.  Ladies fear not, this is not one to be consigned to traditionally male garments, Earth, Sky & Sea will make superb skirts from neat pencil skirts to gently flared styles, how about a flirty peplum or fan pleat?

You can create retro '40s and '50s style pinafore dresses. Update this classic and create sports luxe styles: bomber and Harrington style jackets with gleaming zips and stud details, or cosy utility-style over-shirts and blouson jackets with a retro vibe, this first-rate fabric will make neat and sharp details like pocket flaps and collars and cuffs stand out.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
