Introduction:

Cotton & Wool Blend Suiting - Step Up Heaven & Earth is a chic ex-designer fabric woven with fine blended yarns of midnight navy (forming the warp) and rich earthy brown (across the weft). A staggered twill weave creates fine diagonal chevrons, like infinite staircases.

Colour:

Step Up navy steps are visible against the earth brown on the face side and the opposite, brown onto navy on the reverse. This immaculately woven fabric is so expertly crafted you may choose either side as your main focus. Striking effects can be achieved when using both sides. The tan/earth tone is super chic alongside navy.

Properties:

Step Up has a lightly textured surface feel due to the complex weave, whilst maintaining a soft and malleable, drapey hand. The blended fibres produce a fabric that is not at all itchy and less prone to shrink. A stable handle that won't move around whilst sewing and excellent drape quality make for a versatile suit weight fabric.

Garment Suggestions:

Our mantra is, "suiting is not just for suits" and this super chic fabric is perfect for a wide range of clothing styles for snappy dresses gents and stylish ladies.

Step Up will of course make the most stylish - Jackets, Blazers, narrow and wide-legged Trousers The Pattern Stash - Cordelia Trousers will look amazing in this fabric, add some contrasting details - belt loops/ turn-ups or simply the belt or paper bag top on the waistline.  Neat skirts (pencil flared, or pleated), Waistcoats like Jemima Waistcoat, Pinafore dresses, shift dresses, fit and flare, buffet or prairie style dresses, tunics and so much more.

beautiful fabric. I will be making wide leg trousers soon. The fabric is perfect for this, mid weight for warmth but with a good drape.
Thanks again for another quick delivery.

Wonderful! I made a waistcoat.

I really enjoyed working with this fabric! It feels and looks really nice, and the colours and pattern make it look special, like from another time. The side that's not pictured here has inverted colours (brown steps on navy) which I thought was fun.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
