This classic herringbone windowpane check all wool worsted is a slightly heavier weight than the usual suiting weight worsteds, which makes it ideal for sports jackets and traditional smart country attire. Thicket Check - Worsted Alsport has a traditional appeal that can be easily incorporated into quirky Brit style designs, which are as popular now as they were when fabrics like this were first manufactured.

Thicket Check was woven by a British manufacturer who hold Royal warrants to this day, and have associations with the British Royal Family since The Prince of Wales gave his name to that eponymous monochrome district check.

Designer labels don't always guarantee quality, but the finely woven selvedge ribbon on this impeccable wool jacketing is the real deal! (See the last photo for a closeup). The expertly woven herringbone windowpane-checked design boasts a palette of earthy natural colours, like a dense thicket of woodland undergrowth, where moss-covered tree bark and feathery fern fronds sit alongside the dried pine needle strewn floor. The window pane check adds cool tones like droplets of rain, picking up hues of palest grey and white like a misty sky.

Thicket Check boasts a medium/light weight often referred to as jacketing weight. This all wool worsted is stable, closely woven and has a lovely soft yet reassuringly warm drape quality. It will of course make fabulously dapper winter suits, jackets trousers and skirts. But think outside the box and create vintage style pinafore dresses with darted empire waistlines and feminine wiggle skirts ~ team with pretty white peter pan collar blouses for a demure/preppy look or closely fitted fine sweaters for a super stylish Mad Men inspired look. Create fit & flare skater style dresses, playing with the design to create bias design detail. Team with Fair Isle cardigans, woolly tights and sturdy leather look brogues for retro chic. Wide leg, high-waisted trousers will look utterly fabulous made in Thicket Check - Worsted Alsport.

If something a little more edgy is more your style then play around with bias cutting, tucking and draping for a very Viv Westwood look. This impeccably woven classic may look traditional but classics are just that for a reason. There are so many possibilities for this first rate worsted woollen.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
