Super smart monochrome is accentuated with a shot of regal red in this fabulous heavy woollen coating fabric. Glen plaids and district checks have been favoured for generations by top fashion designers and royalty alike. The simple clean lines of the black and white check make for a classic combination and will easily mix and match within your wardrobe for years to come. The addition of a fine over check in red allows one the opportunity to play with accessorising in red tones and perhaps other primary colours for an '80s vibe.
Woven in superfine yarn with a hint of polyester (for added strength and durability) this type of woollen would normally be a light medium weight fabric …. BUT the smart Regal Red and Mono has a wonderful soft fleece backing. A layer of felted wool (in a natural white colour) has been bonded to the face fabric by the process of needle felting, producing a thick and stable, cosy feel to this first rate fabric which is perfect for cocoon coats and duffle coats alike. The semi structured feel is soft (not stiff) and has a soft drape quality too that will create amazing structural details. You have to feel it to believe how great it is.
Put this fab fabric to use for cocoon coats and unlined coatigans (bind the seams in red to give a superb Hong Kong finish that is super smart and easy to achieve). Create an alternative duffle coat and add contrasting red leather details to the toggle fasteners. Flat felling the seams or simply double stitching will create even more structure and smart details too.
Pea coats and jackets are a great style to make up using Regal Red & Mono Glen Plaid too, why not make cosy bomber jackets and '40s style lumber jackets too? By adding chunky metallic hard wear such as zips and button studs you can create truly stand out pieces unique to you
