Introduction:

This blended woven fabric may remind you of our previous striped linen Bengal Stripes - Sand & White. Like its predecessor, this is a fabulously soft (almost washed and worn) cool, breathable linen and cotton blend fabric.

A new addition to the website and manufactured by the same renowned European company as our summer Linens of 2021. These fabrics are the same superior quality and with an assortment of even more colours, designs and natural fibre types. Natural fibre lovers, this is for you!

Colour:

Linen & Cotton French Ticking Stripe - Boulanger Beige Woven from a combination of fresh natural white and warm beige hued yarns to form classic Boulanger Beige. The combination of coloured yarns and slubby fibres creates a fabulous sketchy melange effect with the relaxed look of striped chambray. A pleasing natural fibre fabric with a very French country style, suitable for clothing the whole family and the whole house!

Properties:

This superb, fine linen and cotton blend comes to you in classic tones of warm beige and white - as wholesome and freshly baked French bread, making it ideal for a multitude of sewing room projects.

This blended fabric gives you the benefits of both wonderful natural fibres. Cotton blended with linen produces a softer, finer fabric which results in fewer creases when worn, which in turn makes it easier to iron.

Linen & cotton have been used for centuries because of their beneficial properties; cool and breathable, get softer with washing & wear and linen is impervious to moths and resists dirt and stains. Linen will not form lint or pill and can be washed at high temperatures with only moderate shrinkage. The characteristic slubs (once viewed as a fault) are now part of the aesthetic appeal of quality linen fabric.

Garment Suggestions:

Suitable for a multitude of pleasing projects whether you are clothing you and yours, producing a range of niche boutique wear or furnishing your own French chateau or country cottage. Natural fibre fabrics with timeless appeal.

Our very own Pattern StashCordelia Trousers, Amelia Skirt, Lynsey Dungarees & Jemima Waistcoat are suitable to use with the medium weight linens which have slightly more structure. The use of interfacing and or interlining may be required on areas that require more structure such as waistbands, collars etc.

The Layer Up Collection by Sew Different is also ideal for creating a capsule wardrobe of fresh spring-summer linen and ( linen blend) makes you will want to take through into autumn.

Boulanger Beige is stable, soft and has the feel of a favourite linen shirt. This light (but not flimsy) relaxed style, the striped fabric will form crisp details (with a little light interfacing), collars and cuffs. Used in quantity it will form feminine gathers, pleats, pin-tucks and ruffles. So all you have to do is decide what to make.

Soft, breathable and oh so comfortable you will want to make a wardrobe full of key pieces for a superb, summer layered-chic linen look. It's lightweight and soft drape make it the ideal candidate for a plethora of uses from the stylish to the practical.

Add some smocking details to the finely gathered bodice of a pretty dress or blouse for an on-trend Boho style. Alternatively, add some embroidered braid or appliques for folk art style worthy of Frida Kahlo (Sewing Bee series 7 will provide inspiration).

Put Boulanger Beige to use for simple boat-necked tops, classic shirts and pretty blouses, it's also perfect for creating layering garments such as vest tops, drapey tunics and pinafore dresses. Heavily pleated culottes and shorts will look superb in this chic striped, summer fabric.

Other Uses:

Utilise the classic French style of Boulanger Beige by creating timeless soft furnishings for your home from quick make napkins, placemats and table cloths to cute café and under-counter curtains and stylish billowing curtains for French windows- Parfait!
