This visually stunning, lightweight, high quality satin was originally created for a renowned British ladies and menswear designer famous for their fine occasion wear with quirky and elegant styles; inspired by history and the natural world. We decided to name this fabric SOS; as an acronym that stands for Special Occasion Satin, referencing this particular fabric and its sister fabrics in the collection. Click here to see the full range of Special Occasion Satin fabrics.

Floral Union is a finely woven lightweight polyester satin twill with a fabulous printed design which has a wonderful subtle quirkiness with versatile style. This silken stunner will appeal to those who love subtle designer style and florals in mysterious jewel tones.

A dark navy background the colour of darkest sapphires sets the scene for a design of banded florals, which depict the Union flag of Great Britain. Printed twice (side by side) across the width and spanning a length of 94.5cm - Fab for making garments with the design repeating on the back. The bands of florals depict English country garden favourites; sunflowers, lupins, clover, lilies and ultra violet cornflowers in hues of golden topaz, aquamarine and amethyst. The overall effect makes a statement but is not at all showy.

The 94.5cm length makes it ideal for ladies tunics and dresses with a subtle individuality and certainly a conversation piece.

Boasting a super soft silky feel and subtle sheen, you would be forgiven for thinking this was silk. This first-rate satin has a sumptuous hand which is stable width and lengthwise with a delicious drape. All you have to decide now is what to make.

Floral Union will of course make stunning occasion wear pieces, dresses with drapey details, bow-tie blouses and shift dresses with cowl necks, simple dolman sleeved tops. Be clever with your cutting and you can create striking effects. Quick-make slashed-neck scarf style tops will all add a hint of luxury to a simple jeans and top outfit. Take this elegant wonder and create '60s inspired, A-line dresses with a Mary Quant style - wear with statement boots or shoes for a fabulous stand-alone piece and show off your Floral Union.

Spoil yourself or someone special and create stylish and sumptuous traditional pyjamas with coordinating piped collars and pocket tops and matching kimono robe. Create retro/vintage style robes for the man in your life with a smoking jacket vibe. Use two similar fabrics from our SOS collection and create a two-tone effect like the robe in Vanessa Mooncie's - The Gentlemans Wardrobe. This excellent book has plenty of fab vintage clothing ideas( with patterns) where you will find more opportunities to use the amazing Special Occasion Satins.

Floral Union will also make a statement lining for your bespoke woollen jackets, coats and waistcoats (with statement waistcoat backs). You won’t be able to resist showing people your wonderful lining! Create simple cravats, scarves, headbands and luxe accessories to match.

Beautiful fabric

I bought this to be a statement lining for a linen jacket with the centre of the ‘flag’ down the middle of the back. It looks amazing
