Deep Forest - Boiled Wool
This medium-heavy weight boiled wool is rich dark green like the depths of a mysterious forest welcoming you in its warm embrace. Imagine being enveloped in all of that green goodness when wearing your ‘me-made’ garments. Deep Forest - Boiled Wool is knitted from a very fine bouclé like yarn, which gives a dense and cosy fabric with a soft textured surface that has slightly more texture on the face than the reverse side.
Boiled wool fabric is treated so that the knit shrinks together (just like when you put your favourite jumper in the hot wash by accident). This dense knitted fabric boasts a soft drape quality, a slight stretch across the width and good retentive stretch down the length but is stable and easy to work with. The closely knitted yarns mean that boiled wool hardly frays. Bonus! There are so many projects that you can get your teeth into with this one.
The best thing about boiled wool is that you don't have to finish or neaten the edges either, garments look quirky and unique even if you put the seams on the outside!
Start with a super quick and easy tube skirt: 1 seam and an elasticated waist - simple!
Alternatively, make unlined waistcoats with a few simple seams, add patch pockets and you'll have a warm, quirky easy-to-wear and quick make garment that you'll be proud to wear!
Dresses, tunics, pinafores, cardigans, jackets (we recommend the Morris Blazer- by Grainline studio patterns), waterfall front coatigans, wraps, ponchos and capes are all easy enough for beginner sewists using this versatile fabric. Customise yours with needle-felted or embroidered pockets or add a fancy trim to the edges. Boiled wool is also brilliant for smaller craft projects such as hats, scarves and bags, not to mention the comfort factor and insulating properties that we know wool is good for!
