Black Petunias is a particularly beautiful linen and cotton Broderie Anglaise, with a very European style. There's something about its fine, almost mesh-like, black linen base and its heavily embroidered design that's more continental than it is English.
The open weave has beautiful petunia-like flowers embroidered in an interlocking design with 0.5cm diameter eyelets in the spaces between, giving an almost Spanish heavy lace look. Boasting good stability width and lengthwise and a heavy drape quality, the design exudes quality.
Suitable for structured and semi structured garments such as '60s style A-line slip dresses with a black cotton lawn or use a contrasting or complimentary shade to achieve visually striking effects. Pink, nude or beige will look stunning used as a lining!
Pretty fit and flare dresses and skirts will also benefit from underlining and you can be truly creative by cutting close to the flower motifs to create your own bespoke scalloped edge to your hemlines, sleeve edges and necklines - beautiful!
Bolero styke jackets and simple boat necked tops will also look stunning in Black Petunias - the perfect alternative to a finely knitted lacy shrug. We recommend binding or French seaming if you don't intend to line.
