Bengal Stripes - Cherry & White - Linen & Cotton is a fabulously soft (almost washed and worn) cool, breathable linen and cotton blend fabric, woven from a combination of fresh natural white and rich cherry red-hued yarns to form jaunty alternating Bengal stripes. The combination of coloured yarns and fibres creates a fabulous sketchy melange effect with the relaxed look of striped chambray. A pleasing natural fibre fabric, suitable for clothing the whole family.
Made in Europe by a company of world renown, with centuries of expertise and tradition. This blended fabric gives you the benefits of both wonderful natural fibres. Cotton blended with linen produces a softer, finer fabric that is easier to iron. Linen and cotton have been used for centuries because of their beneficial properties; cool and breathable, get softer with washing & wear and linen is impervious to moths and resists dirt and stains. Linen will not form lint or pill and can be washed at high temperatures with only moderate shrinkage. The characteristic slubs (once viewed as a fault) are now part of the aesthetic appeal of quality linen fabric.
Bengal Stripes is stable, soft and has the feel of a favourite linen shirt. This light (but not flimsy) relaxed chambray style striped fabric will form crisp details (with a little light interfacing), collars and cuffs. Used in quantity it will form feminine gathers, pleats, pintucks and ruffles. So all you have to do is decide what to make. Soft, breathable and oh so comfortable you will want to make a wardrobe full of key pieces for a superb, summer layered-chic linen look. Its lightweight and soft drape make it the ideal candidate for a plethora of uses from the stylish to the practical.
Add some smocking details to the finely gathered bodice of a pretty dress or blouse for an on-trend Boho style, alternatively add some embroidered braid or appliques for folk art style worthy of Frida Khalo (Sewing Bee series 7 will provide inspiration.)
Put Bengal Stripes to use for simple boat-necked tops, classic shirts and pretty blouses, it's also perfect for creating layering garments such as vest tops, drapey tunics and pinafore dresses. Heavily pleated culottes and shorts will look superb in this jaunty striped, summer fabric.
