Serious Black Melton is a superb heavy woollen coat weight fabric. This fabulously warm, predominantly wool fabric (the added poly & nylon content adds a little extra durability). This versatile fabric has a lovely brushed and felted treatment making it both dense, cosy and hard-wearing. This true black has a lightly brushed texture, producing that cosy finish. Look closely and you can just make out the twill weave, slightly obscured by the felting process. Both sides of this superb fabric have the same finish making it perfect for unlined garments and turn over details.
Boasting a super sturdy and stable handle with a classic felted wool feel and reassuringly heavy drape quality, Serious Black Melton is perfect for hard-wearing duffle coats and jackets sure to become old favourites that last a lifetime, as will pea coats, crombie coats and classic overcoats. This is perfect for the current trend for retro over sized coats too!
Don't forget all those spooky and super creative Halloween makes too! Cos players, this will make superb heavy weight capes and so much more, this fabric is really difficult to fray making it super easy to work with.
If garment making isn't your forte, use Serious Black Melton for upholstery and soft furnishing projects such as seat pads, boxed cushions and foot stools. Appliqué or embroider for a Freda Kahlo folk style and perhaps add some colourful pom-poms for extra impact!

I think its great, the weight and colour are perfect - but its not exactly what I am looking for as there is a slight stiffness, going to sample the mill soot to see if that meets my needs.
It would be perfect for a jacket, as you say in your description, but I want a thick black skirt. I am replacing a 20 year old garment that had a tragic accident so it is very specific thing I want. The problem is me not you.
