Say Hello to Heart of Huddersfield 2021 - The Jewels of Yorkshire!
Our brand new collection of Fabworks’ Exclusive Bespoke Wool Fabrics. Gorgeous, woollens made up ‘ere int’ mills by Yorkshire folk!
At first glance, these may look like simple mediumweight Melton fabrics, but take a closer look to see a wealth of weaving expertise is revealed. The lightly brushed yarns are closely woven in a complex herringbone weave, producing a fabric with excellent stability, reassuring drape and a cosy brushed, lightly textured appearance – in other words, a small basket weave.
These combined factors produce a lovely melange of tones, as the warp and weft yarns pass under and over. There is definitely a lot “more than meets the eye” in this subtly textured quality wool fabric.
The Jewels of Yorkshire are solid, bold-coloured fabrics, perfect for lifting your winter wardrobe! Designed to coordinate and complement the previous weaves of Heart of Huddersfield: Thistledown Marl, Herringbone, Marled Melton, Yorkshire Melton and Birdseye. When it comes to sewing, we have a whole host of fabulous suggestions for teaming the Jewels of Yorkshire with other coordinating HoH wools. We'll be bringing you a blog on this very soon!
Twill Meltons are perfect for our latest sewing pattern from The Pattern Stash - Amelia Skirt! Create your bespoke garment using one stand-alone fabric or team with any of our superb fabrics from the Heart of Huddersfield collections!
The inspiration for In the Blood Red were Red Garnets and precious Rubies. Red has always been a power colour, from the emperors of China to the Cardinals of Rome. A symbol of power and authority red conveys strong emotions and always commands attention.
Its presence in Mother Nature (Red in tooth and claw) can be found everywhere from tiny jewel-like ladybirds to the ripe red strawberries of weaver’s gardens, juicy red autumn apples and fallen autumn leaves.
The red field poppies found scattered like droplets of blood amongst the ripening corn/wheat fields rolling over the Yorkshire countryside are a symbol of the fallen soldiers of wartime, there’s no wonder red stirs the emotions. A symbol of passion and love, our In the Blood Red symbolises the strength, determination and perseverance that runs in the veins of thousands of Yorkshire textile workers, (even though their symbol is the white rose).
In the Blood Red has similar tones to our Thistledown Marl- Field Poppy, Hearthside Tipple- Herringbone and forms part of wonderful autumn palettes when teamed with Honeycomb Harvest - Birdseye, Mothers Marmalade and Fallen Leaves Yorkshire Melton, perfect for creating outfits in differing textures and weaves.
