Description

Nature's Song - Swallow Birdseye is a gorgeous all wool tweed. Manufactured in Huddersfield undergoing the same processes as our exclusive Heart of Huddersfield range. This fabric is not one of Fabworks' own exclusive designs.

There are six sumptuous yarns that make up this gorgeous birdseye weave. Pale marled grey, charcoal with undertones of brown, and a natural white sit together to form the warp. The warp is like the fabric’s base layer or it’s foundation (hover over the photographs for a close-up of this colour detailing). The weft yarns are the bespoke colours that bring the fabric to life. The delicious multi tonal yarns in the weft of Nature's Song - Swallow Birdseye feature a blend of delightful teal blue like the iridescent dark wing plumage of swallows, as well as a contrasting pale grey and charcoal that also appear in the warp. Combining these yarns creates mesmerising depth within this complex and unique weave.

This stunning wool tweed brings to mind those graceful birds with their plumage of iridescent blue black, and highlights of natural grey-white. The rounded birdseye weave echoing the sweet bright eyes, as they soar above sunny skies. Calming and an easy on the eye, if you love the soft delicate tones of this stunning 100% wool, match it with other cool toned tweeds for a complementary palette.

This closely woven woollen has a versatile medium weight and a traditional wool feel, without being rough or itchy. Boasting a stable handle and reassuring drape, Nature's Song is perfect for a plethora of sewing room projects. An intricately woven fabric that will do as you tell it. Woollen fabrics of this kind are easy to sew and will stand the test of time too.

Dressmakers, Costumiers, Interior Designers and Craftspeople: you will find a plethora of uses for this first-rate fabric, taking you through A/W and into spring.

Dressmakers: this fabric is ideal for fashioning classic outerwear pieces and hard-wearing separates. Start with simple yet stylish pencil and A-line skirts with matching waistcoats. Show off your bespoke and colourful wool with shift dresses and pinafore dresses that are super comfy and will always make for key wardrobe pieces – wear with shirts & blouses for a classic look. Choose a complimentary lining to give a sophisticated finish for garments that will soon become perennial favourites. When your sewing skills are more established, jackets, coats and capes will give you all the sewing satisfaction you could wish for! If you want an even more luxe style, feminine Chanel style suits with coordinating velvet trims will look a million dollars. Take this a stage further with your own hand-frayed tweed trim for a true designer style.

Width: 158cm / 62.2inch

Pattern Repeat: 0.5cm / 0.19inch

Quite literally a spin off, pardon the pun.
Wool weaving lesson #1: every fabric must have a warp (length ways yarn) and a weft (edge-edge / width yarn). The warp is always one continuous run of yarns, as it’s on the length. The warp is the same throughout all the Birdseye Spin-Offs.
The weft is what determines this fabric’s colour detailing, bringing the fabric to life. Combining these yarns (3 warp, 3 weft) creates mesmerising depth within this complex and unique weave. Pale marled grey, charcoal and natural white yarns sit together to form the warp, whereas the weft combination has been tweaked slightly at each run interval with one different yarn, effectively producing an accent colour giving the fabric its own individuality and spin-off, in a collection of very similar fabrics. The quality is all in the detail.
